Since 2018, FedEx Freight has selected exceptional professional drivers to serve as ambassadors for our company through the FedEx Freight Road Team. Chosen for their outstanding safety records, driving expertise, and commitment to excellence, Road Team Captains represent the best of FedEx Freight while promoting highway safety and the essential role that truck driving is in the transportation industry.

While continuing their roles as full-time professional drivers, Road Team Captains represent FedEx Freight at employee events, schools, community outreach programs, industry conferences, and engagements with media representatives and elected officials. They educate students and the public on safe driving practices, share firsthand insights into the trucking industry, and help inspire the next generation of professional drivers. Through these interactions, Captains demonstrate the professionalism, expertise, and dedication to safety that defines FedEx Freight.

The FedEx Freight Road Team also serves as a valuable resource within the company. Captains engage with fellow team members, support safety initiatives, mentor aspiring drivers, and reinforce FedEx Freight’s commitment to a safety-first culture. Through every interaction, Road Team Captains help strengthen the company’s reputation while serving as trusted advocates for safe driving, professional excellence, and the people behind the FedEx Freight brand.

Alan Bauler – Denver, Colorado

With nearly four decades of professional driving experience, Alan has built a career defined by safety, leadership, and service. He has accumulated 2.5 million safe driving miles and will celebrate 31 years with FedEx Freight this year. Currently based out of the Denver North service center, he has earned numerous honors throughout his career, including the FedEx Freight President’s Safety Team Award, the 2021 Master President’s Safety Team Award, and three Bravo Zulu Awards.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain and Driver Development Instructor, Alan is passionate about promoting highway safety and preparing the next generation of professional drivers. He enjoys speaking with students and the motoring public, participating in high school safety events and truck driving competitions, collaborating with the Colorado State Patrol, and helping evaluate new equipment to improve driver safety and functionality. He’s a proud U.S. Army veteran and considers helping others achieve their dream of becoming professional drivers one of the most rewarding aspects of his career.

When he’s not behind the wheel, Alan enjoys spending time with his wife, daughters, and granddaughters. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys distance running, fishing, and photography, and has completed 10 marathons, two 50K races, and a 50-mile trail race.

Chuck Jensen – Salt Lake City, Utah

Chuck brings more than 28 years of professional driving experience and a distinguished record of safety to the FedEx Freight Road Team. During his 36-year career with FedEx Freight, which began at Viking Freight, he has accumulated well over one million safe driving miles and more than two million miles when including time spent training drivers and apprentices. Based out of the Salt Lake City, Utah, service center, Chuck has served as a Driver Development Instructor since 2011 and has earned numerous recognitions, including the Master Level President’s Safety Award, Bravo Zulu Award, multiple All-Star and Purple Promise awards, and two Utah Truck Driving Championship titles.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain, Chuck enjoys sharing his passion for highway safety and educating others about safely interacting with commercial vehicles. He has participated in driver education programs, job fairs, technician competitions, media interviews, distracted driving events, and Convoy of Hope disaster relief efforts across the country. He considers being selected as a Road Team Captain one of the greatest accomplishments of his career and takes pride in helping develop the next generation of professional drivers through his role as a Driver Development Instructor.

Chuck and his wife, Brandee, are both longtime FedEx Freight employees and have built their careers with the company while raising their two children. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing with his son, annual deep-sea fishing trips with his brother, and cheering on the Los Angeles Chargers. He is passionate about representing FedEx Freight and believes every opportunity to speak about safety helps make the roads safer for everyone.

Dave Swierenga – Clearwater, Florida

Dave has spent more than 28 years building a career grounded in hard work, mentorship, and a passion for the trucking industry. After beginning his FedEx Freight career on the dock, he transitioned into a driving role and has now spent 27 years with the company, accumulating more than 1.9 million safe driving miles. Dave has been recognized with the FedEx Freight Humanitarian Award and multiple Bravo Zulu Awards for his dedication and service.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain, Dave enjoys teaching highway safety and mentoring the next generation of drivers. He has participated in high school safety presentations and Touch-a-Truck events, where he shares the importance of safely operating around commercial vehicles and encourages others to consider careers in trucking. He takes great pride in representing FedEx Freight and reaching the next generation of drivers.

Outside of work, he enjoys fishing, hunting, water skiing, boating, camping, and spending time outdoors with his wife. Known for his outgoing personality and strong work ethic, Dave is
passionate about helping others succeed and serving as a mentor whenever he can.

David Comings – Fargo, North Dakota

For three decades, David has made safety the foundation of his career. With more than 3.27 million safe driving miles, he has earned a reputation for excellence behind the wheel while receiving numerous honors, including five North Dakota Truck Driving Championship class titles, two North Dakota Grand Champion titles, a National Truck Driving Champion class title, a National Grand Champion title, and the 2025 4C’s Grand Championship. Over the course of his entire career, David has never had an accident. He joined FedEx Freight in 2018.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain, David is proud to represent both the company and the trucking industry by promoting highway safety and educating drivers of all ages. Passionate about FedEx Freight’s Safety Above All culture, he is committed to making a positive impact in schools and communities while encouraging others to embrace safe driving practices.

Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his wife of 24 years and their six children. He believes a successful day is one in which he can make someone smile and leave a positive impact.

David Curry – Salt Lake City, Utah

A passion for mentoring others and promoting highway safety has shaped David’s career at FedEx Freight. After beginning his career on the dock and later serving as a hostler, he became a professional driver in 2003 and has accumulated more than 3 million safe driving miles. Based out of the North Salt Lake service center, David has been recognized with two Bravo Zulu Awards and the President’s Safety Team Member Award for his dedication to safety and operational excellence.

Serving as a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain has given David the opportunity to educate future drivers, mentor fellow professionals, and represent the company in communities across the country. Through Utah’s Truck Smart Program, he teaches high school driver education students how to safely share the road with commercial vehicles. He has also volunteered with Convoy of Hope, supported the Montana and Idaho Truck Driving Championships, and partnered with the Lutzie 43 Foundation to advance safe driving education and character development.

Whether speaking to students, supporting fellow drivers, or representing FedEx Freight at industry events, David believes every interaction is an opportunity to make a positive impact. He values the relationships he’s built through the Road Team and is proud to help advance a culture of safety, professionalism, and service both within FedEx Freight and throughout the trucking industry.

David Price – Staunton, Virginia

David’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to safety, excellence, and service in the trucking industry. With 35 years of professional driving experience, including 20 years at FedEx Freight, he has accumulated 3.3 million safe driving miles along with two Humanitarian Awards. David has won five Virginia Truck Driving Championships and competed in five National Truck Driving Championships, making him a FedEx Freight TDC Ace.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain, David is passionate about educating drivers of all ages on how to safely share the road with commercial vehicles. He believes the opportunity to positively influence young drivers and help save lives through education is one of the most rewarding aspects of serving on the Road Team.

In his free time, David enjoys spending time with his two sons, Trey and Ryan. He is also an active volunteer with the Dooms Volunteer Fire Department and serves as an instructor for the Virginia Association of First Responders, where he teaches vehicle extrication and school bus rescue techniques to first responders across the Commonwealth.

Izzy Melson – Chicago Heights, Illinois

A passion for trucking and customer service has guided Izzy’s 30-year professional driving career. During his 16 years with FedEx Freight, he has accumulated more than 1.1 million safe driving miles and earned numerous Bravo Zulu Awards along with multiple safe driving recognitions. Based out of the Chicago Heights, Illinois (CGT) service center, Izzy takes pride in representing the company’s commitment to safety and professionalism.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain, Izzy enjoys sharing his passion for the trucking industry and helping the public better understand how professional drivers operate safely on the road. He has participated in a variety of community outreach events, including Touch a Truck, Share the Road, and distracted driving programs, where he promotes safe driving practices and educates drivers of all ages about sharing the road with commercial vehicles. He values the opportunity to represent FedEx Freight and help strengthen the public’s understanding of the trucking profession.

Izzy lives in Hammond, Indiana, and enjoys making a positive impact every day, whether it’s putting a smile on a customer’s face or helping someone gain greater appreciation for the trucking industry. He believes every interaction is an opportunity to build trust, strengthen relationships, and promote highway safety.

Jimmy Duncan – Dresden, TN

With more than 43 years of professional driving experience and over 4 million safe driving miles, Jimmy has built a career defined by safety, professionalism, and dedication. He has spent more than 36 years with FedEx Freight, beginning his career with Arkansas Freight before continuing through American Freight and now FedEx Freight. He is based in Dresden, Tennessee and recently received his 33-Year Safe Driving Award.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain, Jimmy is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others. He enjoys representing the company at community events, speaking with students and future drivers, and promoting highway safety. He’s a strong advocate for safe driving and believes every conversation is an opportunity to help others better understand how to safely share the road with commercial vehicles.

Away from the road, Jimmy enjoys spending time with his wife of 44 years, their two sons, and eight grandchildren. He values family, community, and the relationships that have shaped his life both on and off the road.

Mark Carver – Kansas City, Kansas

For Mark, every mile has been an opportunity to grow as a professional driver and advocate for highway safety. During his 25-year career in the transportation industry, including the past 18 years with FedEx Freight, he has accumulated more than 2.75 million safe driving miles. Based out of Kansas City, Kansas, Mark began his FedEx Freight career on the dock before completing the Driver Development Program and earning his place behind the wheel. He has received the President’s Safety Award and his 14-Year Safe Driving Award.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain, Mark enjoys educating others about road safety and sharing the importance of safely operating around commercial vehicles. He has represented FedEx Freight at the Ohio and Iowa Truck Driving Championships, participated in a safe driving campaign in Georgia, supported Share the Road events with students in East St. Louis, and volunteered with Convoy of Hope disaster relief efforts. Mark considers winning the 2025 National Straight Truck Championship the proudest accomplishment of his driving career.

Mark lives in Kearney, Missouri, with his wife and their two daughters. When he’s not behind the wheel, he enjoys spending time with family and friends and takes pride in representing FedEx Freight both on and off the road.

Mike Kazmierczak – Irvine, CA

As a first-generation truck driver, Mike chose a career in trucking because of the opportunities it offers and the pride that comes with the work. During his nine years as a professional driver with FedEx Freight, he has accumulated approximately 400,000 safe driving miles. Based out of the Irvine, California, service center, he began his career as a part-time freight handler before moving into a driving role and has earned multiple Bravo Zulu Awards for his contributions in Operations.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain, Mike takes pride in representing the company, his fellow drivers, and the trucking industry with professionalism, integrity, and respect. He enjoys educating the public about the trucking profession and helping dispel common misconceptions through career days for K-8 students and other outreach events. He also supported Convoy of Hope by delivering disaster relief supplies to communities affected by the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. As a Driver Development instructor, one of his greatest accomplishments is helping new drivers build successful, safety-focused careers.

When he’s not working, Mike enjoys motorsports, traveling, and road cycling throughout Southern California. Although much of his family lives outside California and abroad, he values every opportunity to stay connected through visits and believes the relationships he has built, both personally and professionally, are among the most rewarding parts of his career.

Ray Besemer - Binghamton, New York

Ray brings more than 32 years of professional driving experience and an outstanding record of safe driving to the FedEx Freight Road Team. During his career, he has accumulated approximately 1.8 million safe driving miles while earning his 25-Year Safe Driving Milestone, membership on the President’s Master Safety Team, and several Bravo Zulu Awards.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain, Ray enjoys educating students about safely sharing the road with commercial vehicles and helping the next generation of drivers develop safe driving habits. He has participated in numerous school safety presentations and proudly supported Convoy of Hope by delivering essential supplies to communities in need. Serving as a Road Team Captain allows him to continue mentoring young people, a passion that began years ago as a Scout leader for his children.

Ray and his wife are lifelong residents of Endicott, New York, where they raised their three children and now enjoy spending time with their two grandchildren. Inspired by his father’s experience surviving a distracted driving crash, Ray is passionate about sharing the importance of attentive driving and hopes every conversation he has helps make the road safer for everyone.

Wade Duerksen – Mead, Colorado

Thirty-five years behind the wheel have given Wade a deep appreciation for the professionalism, responsibility, and skill required of today’s commercial drivers. Throughout his career in the LTL industry, including the past eight years with FedEx Freight, he has accumulated more than 2.5 million safe driving miles. Based out of Colorado, Wade serves as both a Driver Development Instructor and professional driver, helping prepare the next generation of FedEx Freight drivers.

As a FedEx Freight Road Team Captain, Wade is proud to represent the company’s commitment to safety and professionalism while educating others about the trucking industry. He believes Road Team Captains demonstrate that FedEx Freight employs the best drivers in the industry and that professional drivers are dedicated to keeping everyone safe on the road. Among his proudest career accomplishments is winning the 2008 Colorado Truck Driving Championships in the Three-Axle division.

Outside of work, Wade enjoys spending time with his family, tackling home improvement projects, golfing, and restoring classic vehicles. His favorite project is a restored 1969 GMC pickup, reflecting his lifelong appreciation for trucks both on and off the road.
